2205 Duplex Stainless Steel Plate

2205 duplex stainless steel plate combining about twice the yield strength of austenitic grades with excellent pitting and stress corrosion cracking resistance.

2205 duplex gives you roughly twice the yield strength of 316L plus chloride pitting resistance that sits clearly above it. In practice that means thinner walls at the same design pressure, and far fewer stress-corrosion failures in hot brine. The two grades that replaced it in most engineers' minds - 316L and 904L - each cost more to reach the same result.

Quality Documents

EN 10204 3.1 MTC with chemistry and ferrite count. Corrosion testing per ASTM G48 method A is available for offshore and desalination projects; allow extra days for it.

Questions Buyers Ask

Q: Can I substitute 2205 for 316L at the same thickness? A: Yes on corrosion in most chloride service, and the margin is comfortable - but weld procedure needs duplex filler (2209) and controlled heat input. Send us your WPS for a sanity check.
Q: Does duplex plate cost more? A: Per tonne yes, per finished vessel often no - the strength lets you drop thickness.
