316/316L Stainless Steel Plate

316/316L molybdenum-bearing stainless steel plate with superior chloride and acid corrosion resistance for marine, coastal and chemical plant applications.

316/316L is 304's tougher sibling: 2-3% molybdenum is the difference, and that molybdenum is what you pay for - real resistance to chlorides, organic acids and seawater splash zones. For chemical plants, coastal structures and pharma lines it is the sensible default. Plate 3-80 mm stays in stock year-round.

Grades and Standards

  • ASTM A240 (316, 316L), EN 10088-2 (1.4401, 1.4404), GB/T 4237, JIS G4304/4305
  • 316L keeps carbon under 0.03% for welding without sensitization risk
  • Hot rolled No.1 and cold rolled 2B surfaces; 8K mirror on request

  • Cut-to-size with laser, plasma or waterjet - parts leave our floor ready to weld

Quality Documents

EN 10204 3.1 MTC with every plate. Intergranular corrosion test (ASTM A262 practice E), PMI or third-party inspection available on request - tell us at order stage so the test slots into production, not after it.

Questions Buyers Ask

Q: Is the upgrade from 304 worth it? A: If chlorides are involved - de-icing salt, brine, coastal air, many process acids - yes. In dry indoor service, 304 usually wins on price.
Q: 316 or 316L for my vessel? A: Anything welded, take 316L. The mechanical properties are nearly identical; the low carbon is insurance against weld decay.
