Pressure Vessel Steel Plate
SA516 Gr.70N Pressure Vessel Steel Plate
ASME SA516 Gr.70/70N pressure vessel steel plate with optional HIC/SSC test for oil, gas and petrochemical equipment.
SA516 Gr.70 is the most-specified carbon steel vessel plate in the ASME world - refinery drums, heat exchangers, storage spheres. We supply it normalized with fine-grain practice (the N in Gr.70N), and HIC/SSC-tested variants for wet sour service per NACE MR0175.
Grades and Standards
- ASME SA516/SA-20 Gr.60, 65, 70 - Gr.70 is the workhorse
- Normalized delivery for improved low-temperature toughness
- HIC test per NACE TM0284, SSC per NACE TM0177, when sour service is specified
Sizes and Supply
- Thickness 8-150 mm, widths to 3500 mm, lengths to 14000 mm
- Blanchard-ground plates available where thickness tolerance is tight
Delivery Condition and Testing
EN 10204 3.1 MTC standard, 3.2 with third-party witnessing for licensed work. UT to SA435/SA578 with acceptance level specified at order. HIC test reports show solution-applied and solution-annealed results separately - ask and we explain the difference.
Where This Plate Goes
- ASME pressure vessels and drums
- Heat exchanger shells
- Sour gas and refinery storage
Questions Buyers Ask
Q: As-rolled or normalized? A: Normalized gives better toughness and more predictable NDT results; most spec changes we see move toward Gr.70N.
Q: What does an HIC report include? A: Crack length ratios (CLR, CTR, CSR) per the standard, on the actual heat - not a type certificate.
